Box League Rules

The Box Leagues are for the enjoyment and benefit of all members so that everyone can continue playing a good standard of tennis through the winter months. In order for these leagues to be successful it is essential that there is an eagerness to contact your opponent and play the matches.

The winner of each league will be promoted and the loser will be relegated.

You need to have :

  • Time booked to play  
  • Floodlight Money (if needed)
  • Balls
  • Contingency for bad weather

Please aim to play ALL your games. If no singles games are played your name may be replaced next period 

Rules for Singles 

Leagues are made up of  3 or 4 players.

You need to play each player in your league over the designated period. Each match is played for a one hour period comprising a five minute knock up and 55 minutes play. You receive a point for each game won during a match plus one bonus point for each set won :

eg.        A beats B  6 – 2, 4 – 2 A = 11 points B = 4 points

There will be SUDDEN DEATH at Deuce – receiver chooses which side the serve is from.

There will be a tie break at 5 – 5.

The WINNER should advise the league organiser of score

Rules for Doubles 

THE PLAYER ON THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE SHOULD ORGANISE THE MATCH

Leagues are made up of 4 players and must be played over the specified period. The rules for doubles are similar to singles except that the play is over a one and a half hour period. Each player plays half an hour`s doubles with each of the other three as partners as follows :

1st half hour     1 + 2  v  3 + 4

2nd half hour    1 + 3  v  2 + 4

3rd half hour     1 + 4  v  2 + 3

There will be SUDDEN DEATH at Deuce – – receiver chooses which side the serve is from.

There will be a tie break at 5 – 5.
